Get to Know Your Students With These Bilingual All About Me Bags Activity
Getting to know your students this year has never been easier. Use these bilingual all about me bags activity to find out more about what your students love. This activity is easy to prepare and great for learning early in the year about who your students are. You can learn so much from your students with this simple activity.
What Are All About Me Bags?
All about me bags is an activity where your give your students a paper bag and as homework ask them to place 3-5 objects that represent who they are. The students take these bags home and fill them up with objects that fit inside the bag that tell a little more about themselves.
For example, students can place inside their bag:
- A crayon of their favorite color
- Something they like
- A drawing of their favorite food
- A picture of their family
- A favorite toy
The students bring back their bags the next day (or whenever you place your deadline), and they present their objects to the class. It is so much fun listening to students present their belongings.
In addition, the teacher can also bring their own All About Me Bag and present to the class. The students always have so much fun learning about the teacher too!
Be sure to explain to students what to do with the all about me bags. You will get students that do not bring the bag right away the next day. So I like to give this activity a week to complete and have students share as they bring them in. They provide a nice little break throughout the week to learn about our students and build classroom community.
Why Use All About Me Bags?
The beginning of the school year is always a little scary and nerve-wrecking for students. They are unfamiliar with the teacher and their peers. All about me bags are a low prep and highly engaging activity for back to school. Teachers and other students learn so much from each other. Plus the little ones LOVE bringing their favorite toys and sharing all about them. Other students can connect with each other realizing they have similar interests.
