5 Engaging Thanksgiving Activities for Bilingual Students
I’m going to show you 5 different fun, engaging, educational, and LOW Prep lessons for this Thanksgiving season! You do not have to spend hours searching on Teachers Pay Teachers and Pinterest looking for cute Thanksgiving activities in Spanish. I’m going to share with you 5 of them right here and stay until the end to get my Thanksgiving Virtual Classroom FREEBIE!!! You are going to LOVE it!
#1 – Thanksgiving Turkey Hat

When I was teaching first-grade dual language, my students really enjoyed interactive and artistic activities. I knew they really enjoyed coloring and creating something. If you have a class that has a similar interest, check out this Thanksgiving Turkey Hat.
Students color, cut, and glue this on a sentence strip to create a hat. This turkey hat definitely came in handy for school assemblies or sharing a Thanksgiving photo with parents.
#2 – Thankful Turkey

You’ve probably seen this activity multiple times. Maybe you have already done this activity with your class. When I did this craft with my students, we would brainstorm as a whole class things they were grateful for. I would write it down on an anchor chart and draw a little image to help them read it. Then, I would send students off to write 5 things they were thankful for on each of the turkey feathers. However, I would always get a few students who would write on the feather upside down.
So, I created this thankful turkey with feathers that are easy to write on. The line on the feather makes it so easy for students to understand the direction in which they should write. When you finally put the turkey together – everything is legible!
#3 – Thanksgiving Color by Number

These color-by-number activities are specially made for practicing math skills of number recognition, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. This is a low-prep activity with targeted practice. Students do not even realize they are working on math problems. They are so excited to see what the end picture looks like.
#4 – Thanksgiving Write the Room

My students always thrived when I incorporated movement into the classroom activities. Whether through a brain break or movement-based activities, they were more engaged and had fun. This Thanksgiving write-the-room activity helps build students’ vocabulary. These write-the-room vocabulary cards have cute clipart perfect for any elementary classroom.
Not only does the write the room support vocabulary development, but it also incorporates movement and handwriting. You can select from differentiated student papers depending on your grade level. You can use this activity as a whole class or during centers.
Pro Teacher Tip: Do not just give the paper to students and tell them to go looking for the words around the classroom. Set a couple of expectations to follow, such as walking and writing down the words. It helps to set a timer for this activity as some students may think it is free time. Expect them to complete the work.
#5 – Thanksgiving Virtual Classroom

Alright, here is my favorite!!! You might be thinking what is a Thanksgiving Virtual Classroom? A virtual classroom is essentially slides with links on them. The links lead to different resources that teachers can use. They are centered around a particular topic, in this case, Thanksgiving. You can also share these slides with students on Google Classroom.
I am so excited to share this resource with you because I always found myself scouring YouTube to find videos I could use in my dual language classroom. I’ve included links to Thanksgiving-themed directed drawings, Spanish Thanksgiving read-alouds, English Thanksgiving read-alouds, and Thanksgiving-themed brain breaks.
You can use these to help bring some festive fun into your classroom. If you’re in a rush to find things to assign to a substitute teacher, this virtual classroom would be a perfect option.
